Oscar C. Gomez, Chief Executive Officer back to top

Oscar joined the FHSI team in 1992, having been FHSI’s Chief Executive Officer since 1998. Prior to being CEO, he was the Field Operations Administrator for over 5 years, overseeing all outreach and health education activities for the organization. Oscar relocated to Northern California in November 2006 when FHSI relocated its executive functions to Oakland, California.

Oscar has served on NACHC’s Patient Experience Evaluation Report System (PEERS©) Review Committee and currently serves on NACHC’s Farmworker Health Committee. Oscar was also on the Board of Directors for the Rosemount Center, a local Head Start and Early Head Start grantee located in Washington, D.C. Oscar’s expertise in migrant and community health is supplemented by his work as a consultant for the Bureau Of Primary Health Care conducting performance reviews for Community Health Centers and providing technical assistance for New Start grantees. Oscar graduated from Pepperdine University with a B.A. degree in International Relations with an emphasis in Intercultural Communications.

Adam joined FHSI in May 2003. In October 2006, Adam relocated to FHSI’s Executive Office in Oakland, California as the Director of Marketing & Information Services. Before working with FHSI, he assisted with the supervision and coordination of a Farmworker Promotora Program and delivered health prevention outreach and case management to Latino/a farmworkers at Health Delivery, Inc., a migrant health center in rural Michigan. Additionally, Adam completed an internship with Mercy Corps, an international development NGO in Washington, D.C. and volunteered with various human rights organizations in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Adam holds a B.A. degree in Cultural Anthropology with a Medical Anthropology focus from Western Michigan University, where he earned The Robert F. Maher Award for demonstrating outstanding ability and promise for the future.


Judy Cervantes-Connell, MPH Candidate, Project Manager back to top

Judy joined FHSI as a Project Manager in August 2006. She brings over fours years of experience in public health within both rural and urban environments, including health education and outreach, policy advocacy, community organizing, and coalition building. Before working with FHSI, she coordinated a tobacco-control policy campaign in San Francisco, managed the 5 a Day social marketing campaign targeting predominantly Latino farmworkers and their children on the Central Coast of California, and led a childhood immunization outreach program within the Mission District of San Francisco. Judy is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and currently a public health graduate student at San Francisco State University.

Judy is a current member of the Agricultural Worker Health Initiative Advisory Committee, a group established to provide advice and consultation into the program direction and priorities of the Initiative programs, including: Poder Popular, Pomotores Comunitarios, and the Agricultural Worker Health and Housing Program.

Cassandra joined the FHSI team in September 2007 as a Program/Executive Assistant in FHSI’s executive office. During her undergraduate experience, Cassandra conducted research on the effects of immigration status on the health of migrant farmworkers, worked as an administrative assistant for the California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness Program, and served as a legal intake worker at the Family Violence Law Center. Cassandra holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Minor in Ethnic Studies from U.C. Berkeley.

Kristen Stoimenoff, MPH, Director of Training & Consultation back to top

Kristen has worked with FHSI since July 2004, first as a Project Manager, then as the Director of Training and Consultation. Prior to joining FHSI, Kristen worked as a grant writer for La Clínica del Pueblo, Inc., a nonprofit health clinic in Washington, D.C. From 1998-2000, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer focusing on community health in rural Guatemala. Kristen holds a MPH with a focus on Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.


Heather Gardner, MPH, Project Manager back to top

Heather joined FHSI as a Project Manager in April 2005. Prior to FHSI, she worked at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health as a Research Project Manager on an assessment of a UNICEF health project in 21 countries. In addition, Heather has worked with ORC Macro on their HIV team, participated in a systematic review for the Global AIDS Program (CDC), and contributed to an evaluation manual for a domestic HIV program. She also served in Nicaragua as a Community Health Promoter with Peace Corps. Heather obtained her MPH from the Department of Global Health at Emory University, concentrating in Community Health.


Kristie McComb, MPH, Project Manager back to top

Kristie has been a Project Manager with FHSI since August 2005. Before coming to FHSI, Kristie spent 2½ years in Burkina Faso, West Africa first as a Peace Corps Community Health Volunteer and then as a Guinea worm technical advisor for the Carter Center’s Global 2000 program. Kristie also worked in the International Health Group of Chemonics International supporting two health projects in Zambia and Madagascar. Kristie is involved with the JET Alumni Association of DC and serves both on the Board of Directors of Friends of Burkina Faso and at the cooperative where she lives in Southwest DC. She is also part of the 2007-08 cohort of the DC Neighborhood College Program that trains community leaders to influence and create positive change in their communities. She received her MPH in International Health from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, where she received The Eugene J. Gangarosa, M.D. Student Award for Excellence in International Health for demonstrating a creative approach to solving public health problems and showing promise for outstanding service in the international arena.


Lakshmi Subramani, Program/Administrative Assistant back to top

Lakshmi joined the FHSI team in August 2006 as a Program/Administrative Assistant. Lakshmi graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2006 with a degree in Biology. She has years of experience volunteering with community-based health organizations, and has served on the Mount Mary Board of Trustees Advisory Committee and as a Board Member for the Mount Mary Women’s Leadership Institute.
